George T. Faris, IV practices in the areas of business and banking transactions, creditors’ rights (including bankruptcy), land use and real estate. George graduated from Amherst College, and earned his Master of City Planning (MCP) and Juris Doctor (JD) degrees in a joint program between the University of Pennsylvania’s Law School and Department of City and Regional Planning, and Vermont Law School, where he graduated with honor, as a member of the Vermont Law Review. He attended the Harvard Law School Program of Instruction for Lawyers, studying bankruptcy law and negotiation techniques (with Roger Fisher).

He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and Vermont, and before the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and the District of Vermont. George served as District Counsel for the Vermont District Office of the United States Small Business Administration for almost six years, and has been in private practice for over 25 years.

George is Peer Review Rated “BV Distinguished” in Martindale-Hubbell, the international lawyers directory.

While living in Shelburne, Vermont, George served as a member of the Town of Shelburne Selectboard, Shelburne’s representative on the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission; and, for fifteen years, as the Chair of the Town of Shelburne Planning Commission. He was a director of the Burlington Business Association and the Vermont Association for Business, Industry and Rehabilitation, and a member of the Board of Governors of the Lake Champlain Yacht Club.

Since his return to Pennsylvania, George remains active in civic affairs, economic development and sailing.

Although George lived in Vermont for many years, he is a native of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, and lives there now in Upper Providence Township with his wife, Christine A. Faris, J.D., and their three sons.
